Self-discipline and focus – Martial Arts emphasises discipline and focus, mental skills essential for sports, school, and day-to-day life, all in a fun and welcoming environment.
Fitness –With so many children and adults suffering from poor health, making fitness a habit from an early age is increasingly important. SBG Portarlington is dedicated to producing healthy, balanced and confident students.
Goal setting – Nothing feels as good as meeting a goal you’ve worked hard for! In particular BJJ has a challenging grading system with each step on the path to black belt being earned. Coaches at SBG Portarlington work with kids and teens to set and reach their goals and guide them on their way to their next belt.
Stress management – Kids are under a lot of pressure at school and socially, and will only have to deal with more as they grow into adults. Martial Arts´ emphasis on staying calm under pressure and getting comfortable with the uncomfortable helps children learn how to recognise stress and perform well in any situation.
Self-defense – Though of course we all hope our children won’t ever be threatened, giving them the tools to defend themselves if they need to is still a smart idea. At SBG Portarlington we only teach effective self-defence systems which teaches kids how to defend themselves against bullies. Unlike some martial arts, what we teach is proven to work against resisting opponents. No 702 degree inside out upside down back to front jab!
Social skills – A Mixed Martial Arts Academy creates an environment of respect and fun that helps children make life-long friends. At the end of the day, nothing is more important than having strong, supportive friendships!
